Qualcomm Snapdragon 898 Specifications

Well, in August 2021, it was revealed that the next-generation SoC (System-on-chip) flagship processor by Qualcomm is under development. It will be Snapdragon 898. The GPU will have a significant upgrade, and the users can expect to see an unprecedented graphics performance.

Qualcomm’s primary focus lies in performance. It has thus improved AI processing in Snapdragon 898 and is using the best and latest technologies, which will result in 20% increased performance. So, today, I will share detailed information on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 898 specifications. Without much ado, let’s proceed.

The next-gen Snapdragon 898 will come up with specific performance improvements. The cores will perform better while operating at the same node frequency and structure. In addition, the Cortex-X2’s performance will be optimized, and the Machine Learning performance will be doubled. Hence, Snapdragon 898 is anticipated to be 20% better than its predecessor Snapdragon 888.

Cortex-X2 will be singularly featured alongside 4 Cortex-A510 and Cortex-A710. This cortex-X2 will improve 16% performance compared to X1, and cortex-A710 will improve about 30% efficiency. It will run up to 3.09GHz.

Well, this latest chipset will be produced in Samsung’s 4nm foundry. The process is codenamed 4LPE, which is derived from the 5nm manufacturing process of Snapdragon 888.


Snapdragon 898 will be incorporated with Adreno 730 GPU. It will thus enhance the graphics experience. Also, Adreno 730 will offer low latency gaming and a high frame rate.

Well, the earlier version of Snapdragon 888 used to get heated a lot. So, with the inclusion of Adreno 730, the heating issue will be optimized in Snapdragon 898. It will improve the quality of images as well. In addition, this new flagship processor will come with a Spectra 680 image processor and an Adreno 665 video processing unit to produce immersive graphics.

Artificial Intelligence

The improved version of Snapdragon 888, i.e., the Snapdragon 898 chipset, aims to improve the Artificial Intelligence (AI) processing engine.

It tends to improve the processing power by up to 20%. It will also enhance connectivity, photography, and gaming.


Snapdragon 898 will introduce an X65 5G modem that would mark the debut of 10GBPs modems. It indicates an upgradable architecture and the ultimate flexibility.

The modem also contributes to achieving unparalleled data coverage and speeds. In addition, it leads to power efficiency as well. The modem will support 1GHZ downlink mmWave and 400 MHz Sub-6 D.


The upcoming Snapdragon 898 will facilitate connectivity like NFC (Near Field Communication), Bluetooth 5.2, Wi-Fi 6E, and superior 5G speed.

It will have a high downloading and uploading speed with the support of the X65 5G modem. Also, Qualcomm snapdragon 898 will have the support for Qualcomm FastConnect 6900 subsystem.


Snapdragon 898 will support a primary camera having about 200MP with the largest sensor in the world, about 1-inch in size.

It is expected that the camera will support 16-in-1 pixel binning to create 12MP shots.


As said before, Snapdragon 898 SoC will be incorporated with AI, which will inject features like voice activation, voice calling, and more. So, noise-free audio can be expected from this processor.

Significant improvements in the audio quality are to be made so that listeners gain a better listening experience than their predecessors. It is also expected to have support for Qualcomm Aqstic WCD9380/WCD9385 audio codec.


Snapdragon 898 will provide support for both QHD+ and 4K displays. Also, incorporating the Adreno 1195 display processing unit (DPU) will enhance the display performance.

So, now, users can expect better quality in colors and contrast of the display to get a lively experience of whatever they play in it, be it a game, movie, or a simple slideshow.


Qualcomm Snapdragon 898 aims to include all the latest security features. Right from face detection to fingerprint scanning, passcode authentication, and a lot more. It will also have a Qualcomm secure processing unit (SPU260), which is expected to capture cryptographically sealed pictures to prove the authenticity of images.

With improved security features, Snapdragon 898 can run different OSs simultaneously. In addition, the sonic max and sonic sensor features will significantly enhance biometric security.


Snapdragon 898 is expected to support 120W wired fast charging and 100W wireless charging.

However, due to the implementation of new regulations of wireless charging, more than 50W cannot be allowed. So, smartphone manufacturers must create mobile phones based on wired fast charging to make up for wireless restrictions.

Location Sensors

The upcoming Snapdragon 898 flagship processor will support GPS systems such as QZSS, SBAS, GNSS, GLONASS, Galileo, etc.

It will also support advanced technologies like multiple types of positioning to identify routes and distances of roads. The location sensors will provide up-to-mark details and correct location positions.

Memory Support

The Qualcomm Snapdragon 870 and 888 chipsets did not support LPDDR5X RAM. However, the upcoming Snapdragon 898 will be supporting LPDDR5X RAM to offer excellent memory capacity.


Qualcomm Snapdragon chipsets are also known for rendering a decent gaming experience. So, this time, with Snapdragon 898, the gaming performance is expected to be enhanced multifold.
