Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 plus is the advanced version of Snapdragon 855 launched in 2019. In this article I will tell you Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 Plus features and explain how it is better than SD855.
This SoC is especially built for gaming mobile phones with improved graphics, higher CPU performance and better 4G, 5G connectivity.
Better CPU and GPU

If compared to Snapdragon 855, 855 plus offers higher clock speeds for both GPU and CPU.
In Snapdragon 855, Kryo 485 Gold prime core based on Cortex A76 is clocked up to 2.84 GHz while in 855 plus Prime Core is clocked up to 2.96 GHz.
Three other Kryo 485 Gold, A76 based cores are clock up to 2.42GHz which is same in both Snapdragon 855 and 855 plus.
Remaning four Kryo 485 Silver cores based on Cortex A55 clocked at 1.80GHz.
So there is only single large Kryo 485 Gold core clocked at 2.96GHz as compared to 2.85GHz which is 4.2% clock speed boost.
This clock speed boost will give a 4% boost in performance for single threaded workloads.
This boost is for provinding better performance with gaming applications. However there is no significant and noticeable effect with multi threaded workloads.
If we talk about GPU, Adreno 640 providing 15% boost in the performance. However both 855 and 855 Plus using Adreno 640 and in 855 it is clocked at 585MHz.
For 855 Plus Qualcomm has not listed clock speed and it can be around 672MHz according to sources.

Snapdragon focusing on better gaming experience with the introduction of 855 chipset. To make it much better Snapdragon 855 plus was introduced.
But elite gaming feature means mobile gaming will become better than gaming on PCs and consoles.
Not yet because only some of the games support these elite gaming features like PUBG Mobile, Fornite and Honor of Kings according to Qualcomm.
In SD 855 plus you will get true HDR gmaing displays visuals in over 1 billion shades of color.
It means you can enjoy every game in hyper realistic perspective. If you have smartphone that supports HDR10 display then you can enjoy HDR quality visuals while playing games.
In a 30FPS game the Jank Reducer makes gameplay smoother and take care of almost 90% janks.

“‘Jank’ is a term used to describe micro-stutters. It’s calculated using the amount of time it takes for each individual frame to be drawn on the screen.”
Similar to Nvidia’s G-Sync and AMD’s FreeSync feature there is Q-Sync by SD 855 plus which will match the display refresh rate with game’s frame rates to avoid stuttering or screen tearing.

Should you pay for Snapdragon 855 Plus
The price of Snapdragon 855 plus will be high as compared to 855. So, if you are looking specifically a gaming phone then you can think of buying Snapdragon 855 plus phone.
And if you are looking for a phone with 90Hz or 120Hz display then its worth buying this chipset phone.
Most of the games in the market are still capped at standard 60FPS. You will not see any significant difference with these games between two variants of Snapdragon 855.
Even if you like qualcomm snapdragon 855 plus features compare it with latest chip set.
